Six-Time Tony Winner Audra McDonald Reveals Past Struggle With Depression & Suicide Attempt [Video]

Audra McDonald, six-time Tony winner and star of Private Practice, sat down for ABC NEWS’ Popcorn series and opened up about her past suicide attempt as a result from battling with depression.

She reveals:

‘When I was [in college] at Juilliard, I had a suicide attempt. I tried to slit my wrist.’

Audra says that the school helped her get back on track.

 ‘When someone is suicidal, one of the first things you have to do is to protect them from themselves. They had a mental-health facilitator there, a therapist there, and they checked me into a mental-health hospital, where I was for a month, and got me the help I needed.’
