It goes without saying that Shonda Rhimes is a BOSS.
ABC announced its renewals and cancellations last night, and as expected, Shonda’s TGIT trifecta of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder will be returning for another year. Moreover, and in even more exciting news, ABC has ordered yet another Shondaland series titled The Catch.
The Catch, created and written by Jennifer Schuur, is a thriller centered on a fraud investigator who’s in jeopardy of becoming a victim of fraud by her fiancé. Between her various cases, she’s intent on finding him before his actions destroy her career.
Mireille Enos will portray the lead character Alice, and Shonda will executive produce.
In more Shonda news, the TV titan is teaming up with Bessie and Pariah writer-director Dee Rees (fist pump!) to bring an adaptation of The Warmth of Other Suns to FX. The Warmth of Other Suns will run as a limited series and will chronicle “the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life” from 1915 to 1970 (The Hollywood Reporter).
The Warmth of Other Suns will mark Shonda’s first foray into cable television.
And lastly, Debbie Allen (AHHH!) is set to executive produce and direct season 12 of Shonda’s long-running drama series Grey’s Anatomy. She will also continue to recur on Grey’s as Jackson Avery’s mother, Catherine.
