Say What Now? 11-Year-Old Faces Two Weapons Charges After Teacher Finds Loaded Gun in His Backpack

An 11-year-old boy who brought a small caliber handgun to East Hall Middle School Friday morning has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon on school property.

via Patch:

One count pertains to a loaded handgun found in the student’s book bag. The second count is the result of a folding pocket knife that Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Investigators also located in the bag.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the student took the items at some point this week from a family member without the family member’s knowledge.

Investigators found no evidence the boy made any threats to anyone in regards to the gun or knife.

The boy is expected to remain in custody at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center pending a scheduled hearing on Tuesday.

The case remains under investigation by HCSO Criminal Investigations Division detectives.

How’d the kid get the gun in the first place? Will the parents be facing any negligence charges?
