A Florida nanny has been sentenced to spend 20 years behind bars for sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy left in her care.

Marissa Mowry, who was 22 at the time of the crime, started molesting the unidentified victim when he was 11 and became pregnant with his baby when the boy was 12, according to the Associated Press. Mowry is now 28 and the victim is 17. Their son is 5.
The former live-in caretaker pleaded guilty to sexual battery Wednesday in a Tampa, Fla., court where the teenage victim, their son and the victim’s mother were present. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Mowry sexually abused the boy at least 15 times.
The victim’s family reportedly believed Mowry was pregnant with her boyfriend’s baby. A DNA test later determined the pre-teen victim was the child’s father. According to the victim’s mom, her son has grown into “one of the most amazing dads you’ll ever meet.”
He takes his 5-year-old son to kindergarten in the morning on his way to high school, then plays with him in the yard after they both get home. The victim told the court that being a teenage father has significantly impacted his social life.
“Who wants to date a 17-year-old who has a 5-year-old?” he asked.
Mowry will reportedly be a registered sex offender when she is released from prison. The victim’s mother said people don’t generally regard women as potential sexual predators.
“I didn’t and it cost me,” she confessed.
This story is quite disturbing. We hope that despite this young boy growing into ‘one of the most amazing dads,’ that his family is taking the time to get him therapy and making sure his mental health is being taken care of.
