Say What Now? Engaged Maryland Couple Found Dead in Their Hotel Room During Trip to the Dominican Republic

An engaged Maryland couple was found dead in their hotel room during a trip to the Dominican Republic.

The police suspect no foul play.

Playa Nueva Romana resort staff checked the suite after the two failed to show up to their scheduled check out on Thursday, May 30. There, they found Edward Nathaniel Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Ann Day, 49, unresponsive.

There were no signs of violence, according to USA Today, and the Dominican Republic National Police announced an autopsy showed the couple died of respiratory failure and pulmonary edema. In the room, police also found medication for high blood pressure.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident at one of our hotels in La Romana, Dominican Republic, and want to express our deepest condolences to their family and friends,” read a statement shared by the hotel.

The tragic news of the Maryland couple’s deaths comes days after an American woman from Delaware opened up about being brutally attacked in a Dominican Republic resort and left for dead by an alleged hotel staffer.

Tammy Lawrence-Daley said the resort refused to be held responsible for the horrific incident, and local police did not make arrests or press charges despite the overwhelming amount of evidence they found.

 Sounds fishy to us.
