Our Favorite Music Moments of 2015 – Inspired by Spotify’s Year in Music

2015 was a big year for music. As we’re quickly approaching 2016, take a look at some of lovebscott.com’s biggest music moments  inspired by Spotify’s Year in Music, their annual release of the world’s listening data and habits.

Drake vs Meek Mill

The ongoing feud between Drake and Meek Mill tops our list as one of the biggest stories of the year. We all remember when Meek Mill tried to call Drake out for not writing his rhymes. Unfortunately for Meek, Drake not only proved he can write rhymes — but he can also craft hits. Plus, it just so happens that Drake’s Meek Mill diss track is now nominated for a Grammy. It make sense that he’s 2015’s most-streamed Spotify artist.

‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’

Speaking of Drake, there aren’t many artists who can ‘pull a Beyoncé’ and drop a surprise album out of nowhere. Drake did, and his surprise ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ arrived with such a frenzy that it’s no wonder the album became the most-streamed Spotify album of 2015.

Rihanna’s Anti-album

When 2015 began, we were certain that Rihanna would give the Navy another album. Things started off with the left-sounding “Four Five Seconds” that earned her a spot performing at the GRAMMYS, followed by “American Oxygen” and later our payday anthem “Bitch Better Have My Money.” But, as days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, the anticipation for Rih’s Anti album turned into an event in itself. With the recent launch of Rih’s “AntiDiary” campaign with Samsung, we can only hope more music from 2015’s most streamed female artist will arrive before year’s end.

The Return of Janet Jackson

After a seven-year hiatus, Janet Jackson surprised fans with a new single, a brand new album, and a new tour. From the moment we heard Janet whisper “Plush….” over the rumbling bass line of “No Sleeep,” we knew we were in for a treat. Janet came back with a vengeance in 2015 and we couldn’t have been more excited.

Nicki Minaj vs. Taylor Swift

After getting snubbed by the MTV Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to vent her frustrations with “Anaconda” not getting nominated for ‘Video of the Year.’ Her rant ended up rubbing Taylor Swift the wrong way who then went on a rant of her own basically telling Nicki to ‘get over it.’

Thankfully, both ladies ‘got over’ their issues and made up during the actual VMA ceremony.
