Former Fairborn Police Officer Lee Cyr was fired for celebrating the suicide of Black Lives Matter activist Marshawn M. McCarrel II.
23-year-old Marshawn shot himself at the Ohio Statehouse just last month.
Two days after McCarrel’s death, the officer took to the Ohio Politics Facebook page and wrote: “Love a happy ending.”
Public outcry led him to eventually delete the comment and he was placed on leave while the incident was under investigation.
“[Cyr’s] action is in violation of the department’s social media policy and does not conform to the Professional Standards & Core Values established by the organization,” the police department said in a statement after announcing Cyr’s termination.
