August Alsina’s boyfriend, Zu, wants you to know that his thang is thangin’ in his shorts — because why else is he on the internet in his boxer briefs?
And you know what? We’re not mad.
Others have taken to the internet to comment on Zu’s show and tell moments.
Take a look below:
August Alsina and Zu react to video exposing their relationship
Even though Alsina had come out in previous years, this was the first time that some fans realized he’s been in a relationship with Zu.
A new video of August Alsina and his boyfriend Zu attending Atlanta Pride 2025 has gone viral over the weekend. While Alsina had already come out and previously acknowledged his relationship with Zu, the social media reaction to this viral video showcase how many fans were completely unaware of this couple.
Zu shared a statement via Instagram Story on Monday, September 1 that reads:
“This my first and only time addressing this, I don’t give a fuck about any external validation whatsoever. I don’t need anyone’s likeness, But I’m a grown ass man, with his own mind and free will…if I ever do anything it’s because I want to do it. l met August when I was already of age, an adult. Aug didn’t even know me when I was 16 or 17… not sure where that came from… yea there’s a slight age difference but y’all pick and chooses who to judge when it comes to that. We will have known each other for 5 years toward the end of the year, so he’s speaking in future terms because that’s where we plan to make it.
“I know I’m not an internet person and prioritize my peace before anything, and protect my relationship, because the media at times can seep in and tarnish beautiful dynamics. August is my boyfriend, and we’re happy with each other, simple… But I can see how being quiet, and trying to protect something of value to you, can allow some people to spin the narrative and create a bunch of different scenarios which aren’t true.”
“Aug gives me a GREAT life, & I’m thankful,” Zu concludes. “What y’all don’t know is, that I run this relationship… I call the shots, August just shows up and supports me in whatever I want to do. He supports my dream, he IS A DREAM! Nothing is ever forced on either end, hope this clears up any confusion… Stay fly.”

Instead of writing a brand-new statement to address this situation, Alsina re-shared Zu’s post from Instagram Story and wrote a short sentence over it:
“My bul be chillin, all myserious n sht [laughing emojis]… but I loveeee when the Yung God speaks!!”

One of the main viral videos that prompted Alsina and Zu to disclose their relationship was shared by the TikTok page @ceomrmunter.
“August Alsina and his lil man friend cut or whatever. I think. Lol,” the caption reads.
This video alone (as seen below) garnered 3.3 million views and more than 293,000 likes as of this writing.

Unlike fellow R&B singer Khalid — who was outed on social media and felt forced to come out as a result — Alsina had already acknowledged his sexuality. Nonetheless, Alsina clearly didn’t intend to go public with Zu up until this viral video, which means that his privacy was still sort of violated.

August Alsina Stands Behind Boyfriend Zu Amid Online Talk
August Alsina and his boyfriend Zu have known each other for nearly five years, but public recognition of their romance has been rare. On Monday, September 1st, Zu took a rare moment to address rumors surrounding their relationship, including their age difference and outside pressure. August fully supported him.
The conversation began when Zu shared a mirror selfie with August at a club on Sunday, August 31st. In the image, August stands behind Zu with his arm around him, accompanied by the caption, “Can’t get enough of you.” The post quickly went viral, gathering over 1.2 million views, thousands of likes and retweets, and hundreds of comments. Media outlets and blogs amplified the post, sparking even more discussion online.
A day later, Zu explained his perspective in a lengthy note shared on Instagram Stories. He said this was his “first and only time addressing this” and that he does not care about “external validation.” He clarified that he met August as an adult and denied meeting him as a teenager. “Yea there’s a slight age difference but y’all pick and choose who to judge when it comes to that,” he wrote. He also pointed out that by the end of the year they will have known each other for five years and emphasized that August talks about their relationship with the future in mind.
Zu added that he prefers privacy to protect their peace. “August is my boyfriend, and we’re happy with each other, simple… Aug gives me a GREAT life & I’m thankful. What y’all don’t know is, that I run this relationship…August just shows up and supports me in whatever I want to do. He supports my dream, HE IS A DREAM! Nothing is ever forced on either end, hope this clears up any confusion.”
Some fans were surprised by Zu’s comments, but August reposted the note with support. He added, “My bul be chillin, all mysterious n sht. But I loveeeee when the Yung God speaks.” The couple has kept much of their relationship private, though 2024 has included public appearances, boat selfies, and car videos. August has also defended Zu in past online discussions.

R&B star August Alsina denies he’s dating his close male friend, Zu, after flirty TikTok goes viral
New Orleans-born hip hop and R&B artist August Alsina has denied allegations that he’s gay and in a relationship with his close friend Zu, after comments made by Zu on social media went viral recently.
Alsina’s rise to fame began in 2012, when he released his first mixtape The Product. He’s since gone on to collaborate with Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. His most recent album, released in 2023, is called MySelf.
On 1 January, the phrase ‘is August Alsina gay’ began trending on Google and also on social media, after Alsina’s friend Zu posted a video on TikTok, which showed Zu sitting in a car beside August Alsina, HollywoodUnlocked reports.
The viral video, shared to the channel @OneLookZu, shows Zu pursing his lips at the camera before panning over to Alsina, with the caption, “I’m going to climb this (n-word) as soon as we get in the crib.”
The clip has had over two million views so far, and nearly 9000 comments.
Zu first caught the public’s attention in 2021, when Alsina starred on VH1’s reality TV show The Surreal Life, which records celebrities as they co-habit for a number of weeks. The seventh season starred August Alsina, CJ Perry, Dennis Rodman, Frankie Muniz, Kim Coles, Manny MUA, Stormy Daniels, and Tamar Braxton.
Zu featured in one of the episodes, with Alsina sharing in a confessional that he wanted to honour Zu for the love they share, which he described as “defying all the constructs.” Since then, rumours have swirled around the pair’s relationship, with some people speculating that they’re actually dating each other.
“Let that man troll in peace!”
However, August Alsina has denied the claims, saying that the recent TikTok video was just Zu “trolling” fans.

In a response to one curious fan on X (formerly Twitter), Alsina said, “Aht! Don’t do detttt.. Erybody else [already] be trollin’… so let that man troll in peace! For 2025, what everyone needs to know is, if somebody is gonna support you, they’re gonna support you.
“If they’re not, they’re not. No ideation or perceived condition is going to either alter somebody’s investment or lack thereof. In other words, people who enjoy low-hanging fruit, just enjoy low-hanging fruit, and for that, there’s trolling.”
However, the fact Zu was “trolling” seemed to pass some fans by, with many reacting positively (and thirstily) to the viral TikTok. One commenter said, hopefully: “Y’all sure y’all don’t need a third?” and another asked: “CAN WE WATCH?” A third simply said: “Y’all look so cute together.”
Alsina isn’t the first R&B, rap or hip hop star to face rumours about his sexuality recently. In November 2024, “Sl*t Me Out 2” rapper NLE Choppa confirmed his sexuality after months of speculation – sparked by his avid support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Speaking to fellow US rapper Yung Miami on her Revolt web show Caresha Please, he explained that though he has “love” for queer men, when it comes to sexual intimacy, he’s only interested in women.
