Serena was defeated by Roberta Vinci in the US Open semifinals on Friday.
Had Serena won, she would have been one win away from becoming the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to achieve a calendar Grand Slam, winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year.
Damn.
This wasn’t the expected outcome, but congratulations to Roberta on her upset victory.
