NBA Smart Jersey Let’s You Change The Player’s Name and Number With an App

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver unveiled the ‘Smart Jersey of The Future’ at the All-Star Technology Summit, the jersey allows fans to change the name and number on the jersey with a smartphone app.

The idea is a part of the NBA’s push towards a more customized fan experience. Silver’s address opened the summit, a platform for discussions about basketball’s future and the role of evolving technology.

During the Summit Silver changed a Curry #30 jersey into a Jordan #23 jersey within seconds, with the simple touch of a smartphone button. Daily Mail reports, that the NBA has not revealed how the shirt works, or how it was developed. The league’s apparel partner, Nike, was not involved with the demo.

Cool, right? We need one too.

Before you grab your credit card, this is just a prototype, fans won’t be able to purchase the jersey just yet. Silver says this is a look into what the NBA may look like in 2038.
