‘Modern Family’ Casts Television’s First Transgender Child Actor

‘Modern Family’ has hired televisions first transgender actor for an upcoming episode titled ‘A Stereotypical Day.’

In the episode, parents Cameron “Cam” (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) let their daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) have her transgender friend Tom over for a play date.

Lily’s friend Tom will be played by 8-year-old transgender actor, Jackson Millarker.

In annstagram post with the caption “A Stereotypical Day,” director Ryan Case introduced Millarker, saying he’s from Atlanta and “just happens to be transgender.”

‘Orange Is the New Black’ and ‘Nashville,’ feature transgender actors and actresses —  but in adult roles, not child roles.

‘A Stereotypical Day’ airs this upcoming Wednesday at 9/8c.
