Ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown (aka Mel B) will return to Broadway for an eight-week engagement as Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago.’
The 41-year-old singer made her Broadway debut in April 2004 as Mimi Marquez in “Rent.” She’s also served as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” and a guest judge on the Australian “X Factor.”
The 1975 musical, written by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse with music by John Kander, follows a housewife who murders her boyfriend and tries to frame her husband.
“Chicago: The Musical,” which opened in 1996 with Ann Reinking as Roxie Hart, Bebebe Neuwirth as Velma Kelly, Joel Grey as Amos Hart and James Naughton as Billy Flynn, won six Tony Awards.
The 2002 film version, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere, won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
