Retired Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom recently revealed that his longtime teammate, late basketball legend Kobe Bryant, tried to help him pay off his gambling debts.

Lamar Odom joined former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on their ‘All The Smoke’podcast and discussed a moment in his life when he was accumulating a massive debt due to gambling, and he decided to give his old teammate a call for help.
Khole Kardashian’s ex-husband described the situation, including being scolded by the NBA legend for his habits.
“I had been gambling. It got a little too steep for where I was at at that time,” Odom recalled.
He continued, “It was getting tight. And if you in a bad situation, especially about some money, [Kobe] ain’t the one that you gonna wanna call.” But, according to Lamar, “I gathered up the strength. I put my pride to the side…And I gave him a call.”
While describing the emotional conversation, Lamar admitted Kobe Bryant scolded him about his gambling habits, but let him know that he was willing to help the situation.
After having the phone conversation with Kobe, Lamar revealed “After he went in, he was just like, ‘Have your people call my people, and we’ll figure it out.'”
He continued, “That was one before the last time that I spoke to him.”
As you know, Kobe Bryant died tragically along with his young daughter in a helicopter accident while traveling to a youth basketball game.
Although, Lamar Odom is younger than the NBA legend — he admitted to learning a lot from the Los Angeles Lakers star while playing together.
“He taught me so many things in life that were necessary on and off the court,” Odom said. Adding, “On the court, he taught me how to carve out defenses and how to take my time. How to make winning my ultimate goal. Off the court, he taught me to sign my own checks lol.”
“Even though our relationship wasn’t father/son, it was more like him being a teacher and me being his brother,” Lamar said.
He continued, “I know I been through my own stuff in life with using drugs and not being good to myself. When I went through that Coma situation if God would have came to me and said we would take me and spare Kobe I would have rather that happened.”
Kobe Bryant will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this May. The ceremony had been previously scheduled and delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
