During a new episode of Hulu’s “The Kardashians,” the reality star claimed her ex got up and left after she joked about their divorce and referred to him as “a rapper.”
“He walked out on ‘SNL’ like mid-monologue, so I haven’t talked to him since,” Kim told sister Khloé Kardashian while taking a stroll in Calabasas, Calif., in October 2021.
“He’s upset over the fact that I said the reason I divorced him – used the word ‘divorced’ – he wished I’d said the word ‘filed for divorce,’” Kim, 41, continued. “And he’s upset that I also used the word ‘rapper.’ He said, ‘I’m so much more than a rapper. I can’t believe you said rapper.’”
Kim also told Khloé, 37, that she was upset he left, considering how she had stuck by his side during his own speeches over the years.
“I’ve sat there through so many speeches that have not been the most comfortable for me, but that was my partner and I stood by him. I would never embarrass him and walk out and leave,” Kim said.
“He’s so used to getting exactly what he wants … I’ve never seen anything like it. Good for him, but hey, it’s not going to happen here.”
Kim also reflected on the embarrassing moment during a confessional that aired during the episode, explaining that it wasn’t her intention to hurt the Yeezy founder’s feelings.
“I never want to offend anyone and I never want to hurt anyone, but also that’s what this monologue was for; it was to make a joke,” she said. “I made fun of myself, I made fun of my mom, I made fun of everything that’s personal to me and it’s all fun and games and apparently it wasn’t to him.”
Kim explained that West’s actions were an eye-opening moment for her, making her realize that she needed to focus more on herself instead of trying to patch things up.
“We have four kids together. I always want to have a good, healthy relationship with him,” she said. “But after ‘SNL’ happened, I felt like, ‘OK, I need to focus on the [California] bar and I need to get new energy.’”
Kim hosted “SNL” in October 2021 where she famously poked fun at the “Flashing Lights” artist during her opening monologue.
“I mean, I married the best rapper of all time. Not only that, he’s the richest black man in America, a talented, legit genius, who gave me four incredible kids,” she said at the time. “So when I divorced him, you have to know it came down to just one thing: his personality.”
She added, “I know it sounds mean, but people keep telling me that comedy comes from truth. And if there’s one thing that I always strive to be, it’s genuine.”
Kim also poked fun at West’s short-lived bid to run for president in 2020, saying, “I’m not running for president, we can’t have three failed politicians in one family,” also referencing step-parent Caitlyn Jenner’s run for governor of California.
Kim filed to divorce West in February 2021. The duo seemed to amicably co-parent their four kids – North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm – but things took a turn when West started ranting about Kim on social media. In since-deleted posts, he claimed she was keeping him from seeing his kids. Kim has denied his allegations.
Kim – who was declared legally single from West in March – has since moved on with comedian Pete Davidson, whom she met while hosting “SNL.”
