Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex has never hidden his distaste for Cardi B, despite her rise to prominence as one of the biggest rappers out of New York in the last decade.

“I do think Cardi B’s a terrible rapper. I just do, man,” he said before trying to soften the blow with compliments.
“She’s an amazing entertainer. I love her on social media. I love the way she talks about a subject. I like her whole swag. I like everything,” he said before adding, “She’s a terrible rapper, man.”

When the interviewer asked why, Flex addressed claims that Cardi doesn’t write her own raps. “If somebody wrote it, those aren’t good bars. So somebody sold you bad bars,” he laughed.
Flex has been known to criticize hip-hop’s biggest stars. In 2016, the outspoken DJ questioned Drake’s pen game following his beef with Meek Mill. Earlier this year, he made headlines after he claimed JAY-Z stays off social media because he can’t take the criticism.
“You know he wants me to tell you why he can’t be on social media,” he told Million Dollars Worth of Game’s” Gillie Da King and Wallo. “‘Cause he’s the most sensitive motherf**ker on the planet and he can’t take n***as in his comments telling him the truth.”
He also spent several years at odds with New York’s other star female rapper, Nicki Minaj, over criticism lobbed at her on his radio show. The two hashed out their differences in 2018. He also sparked a feud with Drake after repeatedly questioning whether or not the rapper writes his own lyrics.
