DaBaby is already thinking about retirement.The 28-year-old rapper reveals that he plans to hang up the mic in just five years. In an interview for the Winter 2020 cover of XXL, DaBaby made the surprising announcement.

DaBaby’s career has skyrocketed following the release of his mixtapes and studio albums. This year alone, his hit single “Rockstar” topped the Billboard charts and earned him a total of three Grammy nominations. Despite his many accomplishments, however, he is planning his post-retirement life. In fact, the “Suge” emcee already knows when he’s going to pull out of the rap game.
“Five years, I’ma be retired in five years,” he told XXL of his rap career before revealing his intentions to continue working in the music industry. “I won’t be rapping in five years. I won’t be rapping. I’ll be creating other superstars.”
DaBaby’s interest in cultivating the careers of emerging artists became evident when he created his own record label, Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment, in 2019. The label has since become home to signees KayyKilo, Wisdom, Rich Dunk, DJ K.i.D. and Stunna 4 Vegas — whose second studio album, Rich Youngin debuted at number 29 on the Billboard 200.
“Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment, five years, definitely gonna be like one of the hottest labels in the game,” DaBaby said about the future of his imprint.
The Charleston native’s recent act is also on brand with his desire to shine a light on upcoming musicians. Earlier this month, while he awaited food at a McDonald’s drive-thru, DaBaby lent an ear to aspiring rapper Mouf.
“I wanna say thank you to DaBaby for this chance to be able to share my messages wit the world!!” Mouf captioned a post about his encounter with the KIRK hitmaker. “I’m the messenger of unspoken feelings, but to keep it short, they call me Mouf. Thanks to all my new followers for joining this journey to the top wit me,” he wrote.
“Ayoooo shouts out to @dababy !!” he also wrote on his Instagram Story. “The way this unfolded was LEGENDARY. I’ll be in touch.”
That would be the new blueprint for rap, enjoy a 6-7 year run, that transition and find other talent to put on.
