Last night, Drake gave fans the video for his super popular “Hotline Bling” record.
At the same time, newcomer D.R.A.M. was performing in Toronto. After the show, D.R.A.M. took to Twitter to address some of the hushed similarities between “Hotline Bling” and his sleeper hit “Cha Cha.”
D.R.A.M. feels he got “jacked.”
Just performed in Toronto for the 1st time tonight and it was bittersweet.

Take a listen to “Cha Cha” and “Hotline Bling” below. Do you think they sound similar?
Interestingly enough, when Drake’s “Hotline Bling” premiered on his own OVO Sound Radio on Beats 1, it was tweeted out as: ‘New @Drake on that “Cha Cha” remix.’
After D.R.A.M.’s comments caused waves, FADER released an unused quote from their recent cover story in which Drake addresses the similarities.
He said:
You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that. Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.
That makes sense to us.
