The BRIT Awards came back swinging at London’s O2 Arena on March 1, serving iconic performances, emotional speeches, and historic wins. Sponsored by Mastercard, the annual celebration recognizes music’s heavy hitters while giving fresh talent a moment to shine. But let’s be real—the night belonged to the LGBTQIA+ artists and allies who shut it down.
From Jade Thirlwall flying over the audience during her performance of “Angel of My Dreams” to Charli XCX being the big winner of the night, these artists didn’t just show up; they owned the stage. Here’s a look at five LGBTQIA+ artists who took home statuettes at the 2025 BRIT Awards.
1. Charli XCX
Awards won: Mastercard Album of The Year, Artist of The Year, Song of The Year with Mastercard, Dance Act, and Songwriter of The Year
The panty-dropping pop princess Charli XCX had a massive night, walking away with five awards! This moment was long overdue, and the songstress made sure to soak it all in. While accepting one of her many awards, she delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late transgender innovator SOPHIE. She mentioned during her acceptance speech that she would not be on stage today if it were not for SOPHIE’s presence in her life.
2. Billie Eilish
Award won: Song of The Year with Mastercard (as a featured artist)
Billie Eilish may not be from the U.K., but that didn’t stop her from making BRIT Awards history. She became the first non-British woman to win Best British Single for her collab with Charli XCX on the summer anthem “Guess.”
Eilish and XCX’s performance on the song “Guess?” Absolute perfection. These two queens continue to leave crowds breathless, proving that their partnership is a gift that keeps on giving. If they don’t give us another collab soon, we will cry.
3. Jade
Award Won: Best Pop Act
Jade Thirlwall officially stepped out of Little Mix’s shadow and into her light. She made history as the first former girl group member to win a BRIT Award as a solo artist.
It’s no secret that Thirlwall has always been a vocal ally for the LGBTQIA+ community. The singer has frequently spoken out against LGBTQIA+ hate, collaborated with queer artists, and has been a true supporter. “The LGBTQ community has shaped who I am as an artist today,” the singer told Billboard in June 2018. “I am lucky enough to have worked with some amazing people within this community from all over the world; from all walks of life. I will continue to be inspired by LGBTQ people and culture until the day I die.”
4. Chappell Roan
Awards won: Best International Artist of The Year and International Song of The Year
Chappell Roan had one of the most gag-worthy wins of the night, beating Billie Eilish (yes, really!) in a category! Never one to waste the spotlight, Roan dedicated her win to trans artists, drag queens, fashion students, sex workers, and Sinead O’Connor. “Because of all those people – they have laid the groundwork for me to be here today,” she said. “I did not give up because of them, and I will continue going because of them.”
5. The Last Dinner Party
Award won: Best New Artist
This group is redefining what it means to be a girl band, and all five members are no strangers to BRIT Award wins. The queer rock powerhouse has no plans to slow down, using their acceptance speech to highlight the vital role independent music venues play for artists across the UK.
The 2025 BRIT Awards showcased some of the best in music and shined a light on queer talent. LGBTQIA+ artists and allies made it clear: they’re not just here; they’re thriving. Congratulations to all of the winners!
