Newlyweds Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon are don’t care whether or not you think negatively about their relationship. The two are speaking out jointly for the first time since tying the knot.
“It put a fire in us,” Nick tells Extra. “The critics can say whatever they want to say…it’s like we have a force field and that s–t’s just bouncing off of it.”
“It lit a fire up under our ass and we went haulin’, says Bobbi Kristina, who first made the announcement that she and Nick had secretly wed.
The two had a rocky engagement, first starting in October 2012 after breaking the news in a promo for their reality show The Houstons: On Our Own. Just a month later, Nick tweeted it was over, tweeting that they were “not engaged or dating,” but “just close like we have always been.”
Then, in July 2013, Bobbi took to Facebook to let the world know their engagement was back on.
“YES, we me nick are engaged,” she wrote. “I’m tired of hearing people say ‘eww your engaged to your brother’ or ‘if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.'”
Bobbi made sure to point out that she and Nick are not “real brother and sister” and that Nick is not even her adoptive brother. “My mom never adopted him,” she wrote. “In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she new that we were going to start dating.”
“She [Whitney] just treated me like she gave birth to me. She treated me like a son,” Nick explains to Extra. “She made me promise several times to look after Krissy…and Mom, I will never, ever, ever break that promise.”
Bobbi added, “She wanted this. This is something she wanted to see.”
It certainly is a bit of a convoluted situation — but if it works for them, so be it!
