He Better Not! Tom Hardy Reportedly in Talks to Play Jafar in Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Film

Now, we love Tom Hardy. We love ‘Aladdin.’ We do not love the idea of Tom Hardy playing Jafar in a live-action version of the movie.

According to reports, director Guy Ritchie is considering Tom to play the villain in his upcoming adaptation.

via NYDN:

“Guy is a huge fan of Tom’s work and securing him would be a major coup,” a source told The Sun.

“There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he’s certainly one of Guy’s favored choices.”

While Hardy hasn’t commented on the speculation, the rumors already oppose previous promises of diversity in the remake.

“When I came in to make the movie, I wanted to make a diverse version of the movie. Luckily for me Guy Ritchie has the same vision and Disney has the same vision, so we’re not here to make Prince of Persia,” producer Dan Lin told Collider in February. “We want to make a movie that’s authentic to that world.”

Hardy, a white actor, would not particularly be authentic in Agrabah.

The move, predictably, spurred backlash from those who called out the white-washing.

Hell to the nah!  They need to go ahead and find someone else before they waste all that money on a film that bombs due to the controversy.
