Two people were killed on Saturday when a helicopter being used for MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ went down in western Argentina.

via The Wrap:

Gianni Vernier, the security minister for Argentina’s Mendoza province, told the state news agency Telam that the helicopter had crashed into a reservoir at Potrerillos Dam about 600 miles from Buenos Aires.

The pilot and a technician were both killed, Vernier said, but it was unclear if other people were on board. Authorities were attempting to locate the underwater wreckage.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

In a statement, MTV said that the helicopter was flying to a location for “The Challenge” and that neither of the fatalities was a member of the cast or crew.

The show is a co-production of MTV and Bunim/Murray Productions that pits teams of “Real World” alumni and other MTV reality veterans against each other in physical challenges.

Prayers go out to their families.
