Shay Mitchell has a sentimental rationale when picking a name for her newborn daughter. Just one day after sharing with the world that she has welcomed her second child with her partner Matte Babel, the former “Pretty Little Liars” star unveiled the moniker she picked and shared the tender meaning behind it.

“Losing the most important person in my life in the same year I welcomed my second daughter has shifted everything for me, but one thing remains steady in my soul. I’m certain they spent time together and that brings me peace and joy,” the “Pretty Little Liars” alum, 35, captioned her infant’s Instagram debut.
“We’re so happy you’re here Rome, named after my best friend, my soulmate, my ‘person,’ my Grandma Romaine,” she concluded.
In the sweet shot, Mitchell cuddled her little one to her chest while wearing a “Rome” necklace.
The actress’ former “PLL” co-stars shared their support in the comments section.
Tyler Blackburn wrote, “This is so beautiful Shay. Congratulations,” while Ashley Benson added, “I love you my little Rome baby.”
News broke on Saturday that Mitchell and her partner, Matte Babel, secretly welcomed baby No. 2.
“I recently just had my second child,” the BÉIS creator told E! News at her travel essentials company’s pop-up event in Los Angeles.
The couple’s new arrival joins big sister Atlas, 2, who was born in October 2019.
Mitchell announced her pregnancy news in February, one week after mourning her grandmother via Instagram.
“Saying goodbye to a loved one while simultaneously experiencing the joy of welcoming another into this world is the great cycle of life,” the “Dollface” star wrote at the time. “It is also my most challenging season to date. I can’t help but think this was the universe’s plan all along, knowing I would need other worldly joy to cushion the blow of losing one of the most important people in my life.”
Mitchell concluded with notes to her grandma and baby-to-be.
“Gram, I miss you every day,” the “You” alum wrote. “Little one, we are so excited to meet you. I breathe a sigh of peace knowing you two are already connected in such a cosmic way.”
