Say What Now? Suspect Turns Himself In After Going Back and Forth With Police on Facebook [Photo]

A man in Washington state has turned himself in after going back and forth on Facebook with a local police department.

The Richland Police Department posted a photo last week seeking information on Anthony Akers for “Wanted Wednesday,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The post said the 38-year-old is wanted by the Department of Corrections for failure to comply.

Akers responded in a comment that prompted thousands of “likes:” “Calm down, im going to turn myself in.”

After Akers did not appear, the police replied to his comment.

“Hey Anthony! We haven’t seen you yet. Our business hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday,” the department wrote. “Of course if you need a ride you can call non-emergency (509-628-0333) and we will pick you up.”

Akers responded again, thanking the department for their information, and saying he planned to arrive within 48 hours.

“Tying up a couple loose ends since i will probably be in there for a month,” he wrote.

After yet another message from the department two days later, Akers apologized for “standing up” the department, telling them: “You’re beautiful.”

“[I]ts not you, its me,” he wrote. “I obviously have commitment issues. I apologize for standing you up, but let me make it up to you. I will be there no later then lunchtime tomorrow, I know you have no reason to believe me after what i did to you, but I promise that if i dont make it on my own by lunchtime tomorrow I will call for a ride to assist me with my commitment issues.”

Akers eventually turned himself in, but not before sharing a selfie and writing: “Here for our date sweetheart.”

Well, at least he got his affairs in order first.
