Yolanda Holmes cherished her son, Qaw’mane Wilson, an only child whom she doted on with clothes, jewelry, and a Mustang, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. At 23-years-old, Wilson—an aspiring rapper who went by Young QC—hired a hitman, Eugene Spencer, to kill his mother.

“The word is ‘matricide,’ meaning murder of one’s own mother,” Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks said in court. “Whatever he wanted, his mother gave to him. A car. A job. One could say he was spoiled. She gave Qaw’mane life, and it was his choice to take it away from her.”

Wilson’s girlfriend took Spencer to Holmes’ apartment in Uptown in 2012, where he shot Holmes in her sleep, then tussled with Holmes’ boyfriend, who was knocked unconscious. Spencer then returned to stab Holmes after calling Wilson, who told him to “make sure the bitch is dead.”

Wilson took all the money from his mother’s bank accounts, and in the months following her death, he used the money to customize his Mustang with gull-wing doors. There was even an incident where he withdrew thousands of dollars from a bank and threw wads of cash into a crowd of people he said were his music fans. The occasion was captured in a YouTube video, which was played for the jury.

Wilson, now 30, nodded when Sacks gave the sentence. When he was asked if he had anything to say before Sacks handed over the ruling, he said, “I just want to say, nobody loved my mother more than me,” he said. “She was all I had. That’s it.”

Terrible. Just terrible.
