Say What Now? Flight Crew Finds Dead Newborn in American Airlines Plane Toilet at LaGuardia

Airline workers found a dead newborn baby in a toilet on a plane at LaGuardia Airport on Tuesday morning.

The infant appeared to have been born about three months prematurely. The tiny body was found about 6 a.m. in a toilet on American Airlines flight 1942 out of Charlotte, N.C., sources said.

The Airbus A321 was just outside a hanger at the time of the discovery, the sources said. The plane had arrived at LaGuardia at 10:44 p.m. Monday.

“As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation,” the airline said in a statement.

Port Authority police and Queens prosecutors are investigating.

The plane was not scheduled to depart LaGuardia again until Wednesday morning, records show.

The city Medical Examiner transported the baby to the Queens morgue, sources said.

“(We) can confirm we are investigating what we believe to be a human fetus found deceased on an airplane,” a spokeswoman for the ME’s office said. “We will release determination when investigation is complete.”

What happened to the mother? Is she okay?
