Salt-N-Pepa’s hit “Push It” nearly got them arrested back in the 90s.

Police used to flock to the group’s live shows, watching and listening for when they performed their 1986 smash, Sandra “Pepa” Denton tells Page Six.

“They said if you say a curse word, we’re going to take you off the stage,” Denton told Page Six at the Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards on Monday night.

“We were saying ‘Push It;’ they thought we were saying, ‘P—y, real good.’ So the police were waiting for us. We had to show them the lyrics: We’re saying ‘PUSH It’ not p—y.”

Denton, 55, who was on hand to present Megan Thee Stallion with an award, also marveled at how much hip-hop has changed for women since she rapped the now-chaste 1990 song “Let’s Talk About Sex.”

“I was just trying to educate,” she marveled. “To teach about the do’s and the don’t’s. That’s nothing now! It’s amazing to see how everything has evolved and women are bossing up and taking care of their own business and heading their own empire. It’s a beautiful thing, especially these women in hip-hop because it was such a male-dominated field.”

“It’s important to see that strength and know your worth,” she added.

Denton can currently be seen in “Growing Up Hip Hop” — which stars her daughter Egypt — and is getting ready to go out on tour with New Kids on the Block for the second time.

When asked who her favorite New Kid is, she demurred, explaining that she loves all of them — before confessing she has a soft spot for Joey McIntyre.

“He gets down on his knees and says, ‘All hail the Queen,’” she said with a laugh.

Also being honored at the gala was Mariska Hargitay, who was introduced to the crowd at the Rainbow Room by her “Law & Order: SVU” castmate Christopher Meloni.

Well, the police aren’t known for being the brightest individuals. Still, it’s unfortunate how hip-hop was and continued to be unfairly targeted by law enforcement.
