Oprah Winfrey has decided to remove Russell Simmons from future editions of her book, ‘The Wisdom of Sundays.’
via NYDN:
The book, first published last October, is a collection of excerpts from conversations between Winfrey and guests of her OWN network series “Super Soul Sunday.” Simmons’ conversation about the impact of meditation on his life was included alongside excerpts with Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert and Elie Wiesel, among others.
Editions of the book in stores next month will no longer include the Simmons section, according to the publisher.
The Times reports that the decision to excise the Simmons chapter was disclosed during its interview with a Flatiron spokesperson. The spokesperson would not specify when Winfrey and the publisher had reached their decision.
Allegations have been swirling around Simmons for at least several months, and last week one of his accusers, aspiring filmmaker Jennifer Jarosik, filed a $5 million lawsuit against him, alleging a 2016 rape.
At least 12 women have come forward with accusations, some of whom detailed their stories last week on “Megyn Kelly Today.” Simmons has denied the allegations on social media, and the New York Police Department has revealed publicly that it is “reviewing information” on the matter.
Winfrey’s decision follows by a month a similar action taken by “Shark Tank” judge Daymond John to delete Simmons from a chapter of John’s motivational book “Rise and Grind,” published Jan. 23.
It’s official — Russell is cancelled.
