The Oscar nominees have been announced. If you think the list of nominees could get any less diverse than last year’s #OscarsSoWhite hashtag-spawning roster — think again.
Not a single actor or actress of color earned a nomination for an acting category. In fact, the only films featuring a cast with people of color that earned a nomination this year are “Straight Outta Compton” for Best Screenplay, “What Happened, Miss Simone” for Best Documentary and “Creed” for Best Supporting Actor — but for these films, only their white contributors were recognized.
#OscarsSoWhite that Rocky got nominated in a movie about Apollo Creed's son.

To make it clear, Straight Outta Compton IS nominated for Best Screenplay AND has a predominately black cast (we see you Paul Giamatti), but the screenplay writers actually up for the awards are Andrea Berloff and Jonathan Herman.

There’s a sprinkle of color in the Best Picture category thanks to “The Revenant” director Alejandro González Iñárritu — who is Mexican as well as the Best Original Song category thanks to The Weeknd’s “Earned It.”
Chris Rock will be hosting this year’s ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Dolby Theater. We can’t wait to hear what he’s going to say.
