The critically acclaimed dystopian superhero drama was originally billed as an ongoing series but then HBO reclassified it as a limited series.

Gossett Jr. told Page Six he has “a question” about why a show that averaged over seven million viewers per episode and won eleven Emmys was not renewed.

“I don’t know what the real answer is but I have a sneaking suspicion that we’re blowing up here,” he told Page Six.

“Watchmen” also starred Regina King and Tim Blake Nelson and covered subjects like white supremacists, vigilantes, and the infamous Tulsa race massacre of 1921.

The 84-year-old, who won an Oscar for “An Officer and a Gentleman” in 1982, explained that he had to let go of a lot of “anger and frustration” that he faces daily as a black man in Hollywood.

“I learned that if I hold that in my system I’m the one who gets sick so I’m not helping them or me at all so I had to find a way when I’m on camera or on stage that’s a peaceful area. Now I don’t hurt myself anymore,” he reveals.

The New York native can also be seen in “Foster Boy,” a legal drama about the for-profit foster care system.

“The wasting of the money and of course the wasting of these valuable young lives,” he told us. “It’s heartbreaking. We’ve got to take care of these children. I’m all for the destruction of the system and reconstruction when the children get direct attention.”
