So Sad: 5-Month-Old Boy Drowned After His Father Left Him Unattended in the Bathtub to Play Video Games

A family is mourning after a 5-month-old drowned while his dad left him unattended in a bathtub for an hour to play video games.

via NYDN:

Cordarius Cotton, 23, is charged with reckless manslaughter in his son Dezmend’s death.

Cotton forgot about the boy while he played video games, then later found him unresponsive when he returned, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.

Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive the boy.

The boy’s tragic death highlights drowning risks for young children. Children ages 1-4 have the highest drowning rates of any age group, and drowning is the number one cause of death aside from birth defects for children that fall within that age range, the CDC reports.

To prevent drowning, the Consumer Product Safety Commission advises that children should never be left unattended in or near water, even a small amount.

So sad.
