Chris Brown sat down with Hot 97’s Ebro for his ‘Ebro in the Morning’ show and showed us a side of Breezy we haven’t seen in a while.

He opened up about everything from his struggle with addiction, his stint in jail, his past & present with Rihanna, his beef with Drake, and more.

Check out a few excerpts:

On why he quit lean:

“I don’t want to be a zombie when I go meet people or end up punching somebody or doing something crazy like I did ’cause I’m under the influence of some bull.”

On his love for Karrueche:

“It’s been almost five years. Four and a half years. She’s straight man. I dig her. She’s dope. I feel like, especially being in this industry, you need somebody who understands you and understands who you are personally. You don’t have to be a big artist. You don’t need to be buying them bags like, ‘Let me stunt on you real quick — I ain’t gotta do all that. Although, I do it ’cause I love her, that don’t come with the territory. At the end of the day, me and her have a real connection as best friends on top of our intimacy.”

On getting married & having kids:

“Yeah…but I’m scared of marriage ’cause I’m young right now. That’s the only thing. Kids? Yeah, I need a little Chris Brown, man. When I can’t dance no more I gotta teach him something. I’m not rushing. I’m 25.”

On taking on Usher in a dance battle:

“I’m fully confident in my ability. I never diss Usher ’cause Usher’s Usher. You gotta give him his props. His résumé is crazy. But my legs [are] a little fresher.”

On what he fears most:

I think my demons as of right now are being afraid of failure. I think my only demon is the doubt in myself sometimes. But I think that also makes me great at the same time.”

On the situation with Rihanna:

I felt like…even at that time when it was going down, honestly I just listened to the wrong [advice]. ‘We need to do this PR strategy and do this.’ I really wanted to be like, ‘Man, f–k y’all.’ That’s how I felt. It’s my personal life. I’m going through a troubled time.

I feel like through the years I’ve said [how I feel]enough now, to where it’s like, if y’all still on that, I feel sorry for y’all because it’s over with. I don’t have animosity about it. Obviously I have remorse about it and it’s really serious like Rosenberg said, but as far as the situation — Me and [Rihanna], we made amends. We good! She’s my friend.

“I knew that was a mistake that I will never make again. I take into consideration like, ‘Dang, I was 18…17 or 18.’ I’m 25 now so I look back at it like, dang. And I’m still doing community service and going to see the judge every month and a half over that situation. So, it’s something that in my personal life, you definitely want to keep the skeletons in your closet but because I’m [an] artist like me, you gotta be public about it. You have to be there. Everybody has their own demons and their own skeletons but it’s only how they handle it when it’s showcased. Some people have great political speeches. I can’t do that, but I can give you a great song.”

On seeing Rihanna share her feelings on Oprah:

“It was a shock for me because you know with different teams and you know how camps work. They move around and you see a different story every day. You don’t know if it came from their camp or that’s just some bull the [media] is putting out. When I saw it, I was like, okay cool. Now she’s showing me that she cares, because I didn’t know for a while. I was like, ‘Dang, she really do care. This is Oprah.’ I was actually moved by it. At the end of the day, I knew we could be friends and talk. It wasn’t a barrier of us resenting each other or being away from each other. So it was cool.”

On why he got back together with Rihanna after the altercation:

“For me, it felt like a lot of it was on me trying to pick up the pieces. I just wanted to make sure that it was still there. I wanted to make amends to her, showing I could be the man that she [wanted me] to be.”

On his stand-off with Drake at an NYC nightclub in June 2012:

“That was a stick-your-chest-out contest. That was who got the biggest account in the room.”
