Ms. Aretha Franklin was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal to promote her new album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics.
While discussing the album, the interviewer asked for her thoughts on current ‘divas’ in the industry.
Among those named were Adele, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj.
She referred to Adele as a “good singer,” Alicia Keys as as “young performer” and a “good writer,” and Whitney as a “talent,” the only thing she could say about Taylor Swift was that she had “Great gowns, beautiful gowns.”
After that, the interviewer threw in Nicki Minaj’s name for sh*ts and giggles and Aretha simply replied:
“Hmmm. I’m going to pass on that one.”
