Woah, baby! Stephanie Ihnen gave birth at 2am on her bathroom floor with the help of her husband after doctors sent her home earlier that day.
Josh Ihnen wasn’t sure if he wanted to be in the delivery room when his wife, Stephanie, gave birth, KSFY reports. But after doctors sent the couple home from the hospital on Tuesday, Josh was the one to deliver the baby on the South Dakota couple’s bathroom floor.
According to ArgusLeader.com, Stephanie was 38 weeks pregnant when she went to the hospital because she was having contractions. But doctors told Stephanie that she wasn’t dilated enough and that she wouldn’t go into labor for a few days.
Then, around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Stephanie woke up to use the restroom and felt like she was about to give birth, ArgusLeader.com reports.
“She goes, ‘The baby’s coming.’ I’m like, ‘What? No.’ So, I went in there and asked her what was going on,” Josh told KSFY.
Though a 911 operator helped him deliver baby Cameron, Josh says it was a scary experience. “For one the umbilical cord was around his neck. He came out white. He wasn’t getting any color. And he wasn’t breathing for a little while, so I was freaking out,” he told the news station.
ArgusLeader.com reports that Stephanie and Cameron are doing well but will probably remain in the hospital until Friday.
Josh is only the most recent dad to be recognized for helping with a delivery. In April,Brent Farrell, a father from the U.K., had to knock down the bathroom door to deliver his son after mom Amy accidentally locked it.
