Brandy Speaks on Weight Gain, Pregnancy Rumors, New Music, Social Media Clapbacks and More [Video]

Brandy sat down with True Exclusives for an interview and opened up about all of the rumors and speculation she’s faced in recent years.

She touched on her social media feuds, weight gain, pesky pregnancy rumors, new music, her legal battle, and more.

Here are a few excerpts:

On her weight gain & pregnancy rumors:

“You know what’s crazy? When I was 23, I fibbed about being married because I wanted to have my baby. I thought if I didn’t say I was married…I didn’t want to lose my fans. I didn’t want to disappoint anybody. Which is why I said I didn’t want to go down the aisle just to go down the aisle because I’m pregnant. I want(ed) to be ready to do that, so let’s just say that I’m married — which was the wrong thing to do. I was pregnant out of wedlock then, if I were out of wedlock now — why would I be ashamed of a baby? It’s funny how people are telling ME that I’m pregnant.”

“I didn’t think the pregnancy thing was body-shaming. I didn’t  feel that from people who obviously saw that I put on weight and thought I was pregnant. I went on a foodcation, because I’d been eating clean for like 7-something odd years, in the gym, everyday, playing tennis. I’m like, ‘Yo, I’m tired of this crazy discipline. I need something to eat! I want some pizza, I want some pasta, I want some cake! I want something other than salmon, broccoli, and asparagus.’

Right after [playing] Roxy in Washington DC I went on a foodcation and I’m telling you — it’s been very tough to get off of it.”

On clapping back on social media:

“Sometimes people come for my life — and I’ve watched it for years. I don’t care at this point what people think. But I get a kick out of sometimes reminding people that you just can’t come on my page hiding behind any type of identity. You’re not even yourself, your page is private, none of your pictures are showing. Some peoples weaves look a mess while you’re coming for my hair. To me, sometimes I get a kick out of reminding them. I’m not bothered, I just have a voice now and I use it from time to time. And that was liberating to me.”

On Princess Love & why she didn’t go to the baby shower:

“I really wanted to be at the baby shower. I had a show. I know my mom would just not, not show up to the baby shower. There was something there that I just…I don’t really ask about. You know, families get into it all the time. There’s something about when families get into it, it stings a little bit more than just a regular person you get into an argument with. Families go through things. This is a new situation. There’s a new baby. It’s all new. Everyone wants it to go right. “

On a potential project with Ray J:

“I really want to. I think Ray J and I are undiscovered together. Our voices are the same, but it’s not the same. You hear the difference but you hear the same. I’d love that — to be able to do that kind of stuff vocally with him. Like, he’s the only one I could do that with.”
