A few policemen in Miami-Dade County didn’t get the memo that they’re supposed to protect and serve while on duty, not ignore dispatch calls, go shopping, or meet up with significant others.
Three officers from Miami-Dade County’s Kendall district have been let go because they simply weren’t doing their jobs.
Internal affairs surveillance video broadcast on local TV news showed one of the fired officers, Dario Socarras, canoodling with his girlfriend in a shopping mall parking lot on Oct. 5, 2010, and ignoring a call to respond to a burglary.
Hours later, Socarras was taped having coffee with two other fired cops, his sergeant, Jennifer Gonzalez, and former officer Jose Huerta, at an outdoor café.
The trio calmly sipped java at a table beneath a large umbrella and paid no mind to two calls that Socarras received, one about an unconscious 5-month-old and another about a suspicious vehicle, NBC reported.
The disgraced ex-cop actually answered the suspicious vehicle call — telling the dispatcher he was “en route” — but remained at the table, chatting with his slacker coffee klatch for another 25 minutes.
Investigators said paramedics eventually got to the stricken child.
Socarras later forged a report to say that he showed up at the scene, investigators aid.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, was caught on camera bargain hunting at discount stores like Kohl’s and Target and visiting her parents in a nearby town while on the clock, local CBS News reported.
Socarras, Huerta and Gonzalez have all denied the charges and were fighting to get their jobs back, according to local reports.
Three other officers were disciplined for similar behavior and received suspension ranging from five to 20 days, according to CBS Miami.
The Miami-Dade Police Department hasn’t commented on the case.”
