Poetic Justice: Judge Orders Deer Poacher to Watch ‘Bambi’ Once a Month While in Prison

David Berry Jr., a 29-year-old deer poacher in Missouri, . has been sentenced to watch the Disney movie Bambi several times over as part of his sentence for his role in the illegal killing hundreds of deer.

via Complex:

“The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste,” said Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Don Trotter. Conservation agents added that it’s one of the largest cases of deer poaching in the history of the state.

Because of that, Berry was given the aforementioned unorthodox add-on to his jail sentence, which said: “At least one time per month, that Defendant is to view the Walt Disney movie Bambi, with the first viewing being on or before December 23, 2018, and at least such viewing each month thereafter during the Defendants incarceration in the Lawrence County Jail…”

Berry, as well as his father, two brothers, and another man who helped the family in their morbid pursuit had their hunting, fishing, and trapping privileges taken away, either temporarily or permanently. They’ve also paid a combined $51,000 in court costs and fines.

The investigation into Berry has been going on since late 2015 after authorities received an anonymous tip that deer poaching was going on in the area.

Well, it’s not the worst punishment — but it’s certainly a petty one.
