Comme des Garçons was rightfully accused of cultural appropriation for having white models don cornrow wigs during the brand’s menswear show at Paris Fashion Week.

The brand issued an apology to the Dazed on Sunday, writing, “The inspiration for the headpieces for Comme des Garçons menswear FW’20 show was the look of an Egyptian prince. It was never ever our intention to disrespect or hurt anyone—we deeply and sincerely apologize [sic] for any offense it has caused.”

The hairstylist responsible for the wigs, Julien d’Ys took to Instagram to reveal his influences for the wigs, also citing Tutankhamun and Ancient Egypt.
