Watch: Viola Davis Wins Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for ‘Fences’ [Video]

After two previous nominations in 2008 (Doubt) and 2011 (The Help), Viola Davis can now call herself an Academy Award winner.

The 51-year-old took home the Academy Award for Actress in a Supporting Role for Fences at tonight’s ceremony.

During her riveting acceptance speech, a tearful Viola thanked her husband, daughter, Denzel Washington and Fences playwright August Wilson for exalting ordinary people.

Viola was considered the frontrunner throughout awards season, picking up the Golden Globe, SAG Award and countless other honors on her road to the Oscars.

With her win tonight, Viola finds herself just one statuette away from an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

Viola previously won an Emmy in 2015 for her role as law professor Annalise Keating on ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder. She won a Tony in 2010 for Best Lead Actress in a Play for Fences.

Congratulations, Viola!
