After La La Land was declared the winner of Best Picture at tonight’s Academy Awards, it was revealed that Moonlight had actually defied the odds and took home the highest honor of the evening.
La La Land was widely expected to win Best Picture. In fact, in an article published by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, math predicted a win for the Damien Chazelle-directed musical.
But in a twist almost too wild to believe, presenter Warren Beatty read off the incorrect film, and Moonlight was presented with Best Picture halfway through La La Land‘s acceptance speech.
