Jeffrey Felix, who retired from Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center in September, told me that he and Simpson had long conversations every day in the seven years O.J. has been locked up for the armed robbery of memorabilia dealers.
“O.J. picked me out,” Felix said. “He ended up trusting me almost as much as Al Cowlings” — the friend who drove O.J. in the white Bronco 20 years ago. “He said, ‘You’re like a brother to me.’”
The talks often took place in O.J.’s cell — where there’s a shrine to his murdered wife Nicole Brown Simpson on the head of his bed.
Felix is convinced the 68-year-old murdered Nicole: “He’s such a nice guy, but, come on, we know he did it.”
The book — to be titled “Guarding the Juice” and ghostwritten by Corey Levitan — will detail several incidents where Felix protected Simpson.
When O.J. cut in front of an Aryan Nation member on the cafeteria line, the neo-Nazi vowed to kill him. Felix went to the group’s leader and brokered peace.
Another time, Simpson’s two cellmates each tried to extort him for $300 a week. Felix anonymously reported the scheme, and one of the men ratted out the other, who was sent to solitary confinement.
“You can see why O.J. trusted me,” Felix said. “I kind of earned it.”
As for rumors that Simpson is the father of Khloé Kardashian, O.J. told Felix, “I would never do that to my friend Bob [Kardashian, who was Simpson’s lawyer]. I would never tap Kris.”
When Simpson learned that Cuba Gooding Jr. is playing him in FX’s “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” (David Schwimmer is playing Kardashian), Simpson told Felix: “Just call me Matt, because people are always stepping on me and giving me nothing.”
Well, there you have it. The question now is whether or not you actually believe him.
