Yikes! Fight Breaks Out Between Last-Minute Christmas Shoppers at a New Jersey Shopping Mall [Video]

The holiday spirit wasn’t exactly in the air last night at Newport Mall in Jersey City.

Just after 7:30 p.m., last-minute Christmas shoppers at Newport Mall in Jersey City were greeted with a rowdy fight involving other shoppers and mall security guards.

Larissa L., 37, of Newark told The Jersey Journal she was shopping with her mother in a nearby store when they heard the commotion.

“I just seen a bunch of flying fist and I seen the security guards getting punched and anyone that was in the way getting punched,” she said.

Larissa said there was no “Santa” involved in the fight, despite widespread conjectures along those lines on social media in light of the infamous Easter bunny brawl at the same mall in March.

Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said Saturday afternoon that the fight involved a group of minors and that no one was injured or arrested. The juveniles were later released to their parents, she said.

In a video shot by Larissa that captures part of the fight, multiple security guards can be seen trying to restrain one person involved in the mess while onlookers back away.

At least one part of the fight broke out next to a shopper holding a toddler.
