Say What Now? Woman Pickpockets ‘Hamilton’ Audience Members At Least a Half Dozen Times Over Six Months

If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket to ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway anytime soon — be careful. A serial pickpocket thief has been successfully targeting unsuspecting audience members for the last six months.

The thief has hit a half dozen times over the past six months, stealing from unsuspecting theatergoers as they waited for the actors outside the Richard Rodgers Theater.

She then used their credit cards to buy $2,200 worth of items at Macy’s, Junior’s Restaurant, Rite Aid, Target, DSW, Burlington Coat Factory and Duane Reade.

On Sunday, about 100 people milled outside the theater, waiting for autographs, but no security guards were visible nearby.

“Oh that’s scary, I thought it was safe here!” said Claudia Granda, 32, from Brazil. “There’s so many people waiting around on the street after the show I thought it was safe. Maybe they should have police out here with people when they are leaving because this is such a popular show.”

The thief may be in for an unpleasant surprise if she targets a New Yorker instead of a tourist, said Keith Trader, 41, a construction worker from West Orange, N.J., who was waiting outside with his wife and three young daughters.

“Pickpockets might be targeting people coming out of the theater because they assume they’re all tourists,” he said. “But one of them is gonna get someone from New York or Jersey and they’re gonna be sorry.”

The musical about Founding Father Alexander Hamilton has attracted a bevy of American politicians, and drew the ire of President-elect Donald Trump, who demanded the cast apologize after actor Brandon Victor Dixon read a statement to Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

Police describe the thief as a black woman with black hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, a grey sweater, black pants and a gray scarf.
