Rihanna Wins Lawsuit Against Topshop

A court ruled in July 2013 that Topshop could not sell a t-shirt bearing Rihanna’s image, and Britain’s Court of Appeal upheld that decision today.

In 2013, Topshop began selling a sleeveless t-shirt bearing an image of Rihanna during the singer’s Talk That Talk era.

Although the idea thrilled her fans, Topshop had not actually acquired permission from the superstar to use and profit from her image.

The original judge ruled that the unauthorized use of Rihanna’s image constituted a loss of control over her repute in the fashion industry and charged that fans were likely to believe that she had authorized the image when she had not.

Check out the Topshop t-shirt below.
