Regé-Jean Page Says He ‘Respectfully Exited’ the ‘Bridgerton’ Group Text

Bowing out. Regé-Jean Page decided to leave the Bridgerton group chat behind after announcing his exit from the Netflix series earlier this year.

“I’m no longer in it,” the actor, 31, told British GQ in a recent interview. “I respectfully exited. I didn’t want to put them in an awkward situation where they had to kick me out.”

But Page did offer some breadcrumbs of hope that he may pop up on the series, in which he played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.

When asked whether he would return for a guest appearance, the “For the People” alum didn’t say no but did play coy.

“You know, I couldn’t tell you!” he exclaimed. “Isn’t there something wonderful about being surprised by what you weren’t suspecting?”

In April, the smash show confirmed that Page would not be returning for a second season. The actor also shared the news on his Instagram account, adding that filming the soapy period drama had been an “absolute pleasure and privilege.”

Though all parties claimed the split was amicable, sources later told Page Six that creative differences were a big factor in his departure.

“He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for Season 2, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show,” a source revealed at the time, adding that Page was now “inundated with offers” for other roles.

Next up for Page is “The Gray Man” opposite Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans and “Dungeons & Dragons” with Chris Pine.

And that’s not all that’s on his plate. Page Six exclusively reported that he is the favorite to take over the iconic role of James Bond from Daniel Craig.
