‘Orange Is the New Black’ Star Danielle Brooks Joins ‘The Color Purple’ on Broadway

In 2013, Danielle Brooks emerged out of nowhere when she landed the role of fan-favorite Taystee on the Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black, and now she’s heading to Broadway.

Danielle will join Jennifer Hudson in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, and she’ll portray Sofia. Jennifer Hudson, who is also new to Broadway, will assume the role of Shug.

The production will open later this year (December 10) at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Congratulations, Danielle!

Orange Is the New Black‘s third outing will be released in its entirety June 12.
