Again? Netflix Raises Monthly Rates, Standard Subscription Now $14

Netflix’s monthly rates are rising — again — just in time for Netflix n’ Chill weather.

via NYDN:

The basic plan for the streaming site will stay at $8.99 a month, while the standard plan goes up a dollar to $13.99 and the premium subscription jumps $2 to $17.99 as of Thursday. Prices last went up in the United States in January 2019.

“We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Daily News.

“We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer more variety of TV shows and films — in addition to our great fall line up. As always we offer a range of plans so that people can pick a price that works best for their budget.”

New subscribers will see the price hikes automatically, while existing customers will have the raise rolled into the next billing cycle.

While Netflix boasts some of the most popular original shows and movies, as well as a deep library, it also remains one of the more expensive options, with Hulu coming in at just $6, or $12 for the ad-free platform. Disney+ will run you $6.99 a month or $69.99 for the year.

The newest service, HBO Max, costs $14.99 month.

With theaters shut down across the country, Netflix has been the home to some of the biggest and most buzzworthy movies this year, including “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Mank,” “Prom” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Well — they gotta afford all those expensive exclusive deals somehow, right?
