Netflix cut ties with Spacey last week following a slew of sexual harassment and assault allegationsagainst the star (including some from the “House of Cards” crew), but new documents reveal that he was developing a merchandise line that appeared to be based on his character, Frank Underwood, right before the scandal broke.
Spacey, 58, filed for rights to trademark “Presidential by Kevin Spacey,” according to documents obtained by The Blast. The trademark filing seeks to use the branding for eyewear, sunglasses, food items, shoes, clothing and kitchenware.
The most recent filing was made on October 24 — just days before Anthony Rapp‘s sexual misconduct accusations against Spacey went public.
It’s unclear whether Spacey will move forward with the venture, as production on the sixth and final season of “House of Cards” is going ahead without the actor.
Spacey’s attorney and a rep for Netflix did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the filing.
So much for that.
