Macklemore dropped a new song last night called “White Privilege II.” In the nearly 9-minute song, he examines the role he plays in the Black Lives Matter movement as well as racial tension in America as a whole. The song also features Jamila Woods.
In the first verse, he questions:
“Am I on the outside looking in,
Or am I on the inside looking out?
Is it my place to give my two cents
Or should I stand on the side and shut my mouth?
‘No justice no peace’
Oh yeah, I’m saying that.
They chanting out BLACK LIVES MATTER
But I don’t say it back.
Is it O.K. for me to say? I don’t know, so I watch and stand.”
He then goes on to question his own music and other white artists who appropriate ‘black’ music for mainstream success — and calls out Elvis, Miley Cyrus, and of course Iggy Azalea.
“You’ve exploited and stolen, the music, the moment
The magic, the passion, the fashion, you toyed with
The culture was never, yours to make better.
You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea.
Fake and so plastic, you heisted the magic.

As expected, Iggy wasn’t a fan of being called out and took to Twitter to respond.
