LL Cool J Says He’s ‘Really Proud’ of Controversial Brad Paisley Collaboration, ‘Accidental Racist’

Country crooner Brad Paisley and Hip Hop legend LL Cool J released a song yesterday called “Accidental Racist”. Unfortunately, the song is just a ridiculous as the title suggests, with lyrics consisting of:

“I’m just a white man comin’ to you from the southland/Tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be/I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done/And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history/Our generation didn’t start this nation.”

“Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood,” LL raps, “What the world is really like when you’re livin’ in the hood/Just because my pants are saggin’ doesn’t mean I’m up to no good.”

The song, which has earned scathing critiques from websites across the internet, features a hip-hop interlude in which LL raps as an African-American being judged by the clothes he wears.

LL spoke out in response to the controversy, saying that he’s really proud of the song.

Music is about, and art is about, connecting different people, and building bridges and breaking the rules,” the rapper tells CNN, who caught up with him at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. “If it’s not compelling, and it’s not complex and it’s not interesting, then what are we doing it for? So I think that’s the right move. I needed to do something that was going to be interesting like that, and shake things up, and jump out of the box. I’m really proud of it, and I hope the world hears it and enjoys it.”
