Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” might seem like light-hearted radio fodder, but it looks like she’ll be getting a little more personal on her new album Prism.
Katy explained the meaning behind the lyrics of her emotional song “By The Grace Of God” admitted she questioned whether she should ‘continue living’.
‘That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, “Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?”‘ she told Billboard magazine.
The lyrics continue: ‘Lay on the bathroom floor/Couldn’t take it anymore/By the grace of God/I looked in the mirror and decided to stay/Wasn’t gonna let love take me out/I thank my sister for keeping my head above the water/Every morning, I finally see myself again/Universe calling my bluff.’
That’s quite powerful. Read the rest of Katy’s cover story in this month’s issue of Billboard magazine.
